“Remember the name!”
Remember it? Everton fans knew all about Wayne Rooney long before the rest of the country sat up and took notice after his winner against Arsenal back in 2002.
Rooney’s done a fair bit since then, primarily at Manchester United.
But it seems his time at Old Trafford is coming to an end, with the Blues being heavily linked with their former forward.
And no more so than in the Mirror, who claim Everton failed in an audacious bid to sign Rooney during the January transfer window.
Details are sketchy (as in there are no more details) but Ronald Koeman has consistently failed to deny suggestions he would be interested in signing Rooney, and only the other day stated the player could still do a job in the Premier League.
Maybe there’s something in it. Maybe there isn’t.
We’ll find out in the summer, no doubt.
Wayne Rooney’s contract could prevent a Blues return
Meanwhile, various media outlets are claiming Everton are on the trail of Polish midfielder Karol Linetty .
The Sampdoria midfielder, how only moved to Serie A in the summer, is said to have caught the attention of the Blues.
The 22-year-old has been a regular for Samp this season and has won 13 caps for Poland.
